Title
A resolution to support the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) Alignment of the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project.
Body
WHEREAS, the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Study was authorized by a resolution adopted by the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the United States House of Representatives on May 6, 1998; and,
WHEREAS, the project area of protection extends from Bayou Lafourche in Lafourche Parish to the Mississippi River Levee in Plaquemines Parish and includes the West Bank of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, four alternate levee alignments are being studied within the study area; and,
WHEREAS, of the four alternatives being considered for the Flood Control Project the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Alignment provides the greatest level of protection for the residents of the West Bank of St. Charles Parish and the surrounding parishes who have anxiously awaited this project for several years; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council and the Parish President to express their support for the prompt and efficient implementation of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Alignment to provide hurricane protection to the citizens of the West Bank of St. Charles Parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby express our support for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Alignment of the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said support recognizes and acknowledges that the Study shall include the necessary secondary levees and drainage facilities to ensure 100 year flood protection to the residents of the West Bank of St. Charles Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Senator ...
