Title
A resolution asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to construct center turning lanes on LA 48, the River Road, in St. Charles Parish, in Destrehan at the intersection of Schexnaydre Lane.
Body
WHEREAS, resolution requests have previously been submitted to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in June 2004 and April 2007 with no definite action taken; and,
WHEREAS, this area is presently a school zone for Destrehan High School with approximately 1400 students; and,
WHEREAS, on school days there are approximately 80 school buses, 300 teachers, and 350 student drivers entering and exiting Schexnaydre Lane and LA 48; and,
WHEREAS, this section of the highway serves as a main traffic artery for residents and increases the congestion during work hour traffic and school traffic resulting in a dangerous environment for traffic turning on and off LA 48; and,
WHEREAS, this is an evacuation route for the school, businesses, and residents of the area; and,
WHEREAS, turning lanes installed in other stretches of LA 48 have resulted as a benefit for area residents.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby ask the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to construct center turning lanes on LA 48, the River Road, in St. Charles Parish, in Destrehan at the intersection of Schexnaydre Lane.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., Representative Ernest D. Wooton, Mr. Michael Stack, District Administrator of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and Mr. William Ankner, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development asking that they support and take whatever steps are necessar...
