Proclamation: November 8, 2003 - A Day of Remembrance for all Veterans

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, America was founded on the principles of liberty, opportunity, and justice for all, and on Veteran's Day we recognize the men and women of our Armed Forces who have valiantly defended these values throughout our Nation's history; and,
WHEREAS, it has long been our customs to commemorate November 11th as the anniversary of the ending of World War I, by paying tribute to the heroes who fought so bravely, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores of that tragic struggle and by rededicating ourselves to the cause of peace; and,
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving, prayer, and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations; and,
WHEREAS, there are currently more than 25 million living American Veterans, many of whom put their lives on the line to preserve our freedom; and,
WHEREAS, by answering the call of duty and risking their lives to protect their fellow countrymen, these patriots have inspired our Nation with their courage, compassion, and dedication; and,
WHEREAS, our proud veterans have given us an extraordinary legacy of patriotism and honor and their service represents the highest form of citizenship; and,
WHEREAS, on November 8th, there will be a Veterans Memorial at the St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands, Louisiana to honor deceased veterans buried in the Des Allemands area cemeteries.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE ST. CHARLES PARISH PRESIDENT AND THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL DO HEREBY DECLARE AND PROCLAIM SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2003, AS
“A DAY OF REMEMBERANCE FOR ALL VETERANS”
