IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Mr. Barry Guillot and his wife Amber are residents of Luling, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish and are the proud parents of two sons Nicholas and Dylan; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Guillot is a 1991 Graduate of the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts, Elementary Education, and has been teaching for nine years; eight years at Harry Hurst Middle School in the Science Department; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Guillot is a Member of the St. Charles Community Advisory Panel, Executive Board Member of St. Charles Historical Foundation, National Service Learning Partnership Constituency Committee, Lt. Governors Learn and Serve America State Focus Committee, Louisiana Middle School Association, Louisiana Science Teachers Association, Louisiana Environmental Education Association, and Gulf Coast Herpetological Society; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Guillot has many accolades to his name: 2000 Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana Educator of the Year, 2000-2001 Louisiana Association of Conservation Districts Educator Award, 2001-2002 Louisiana Wildlife Federation Teacher of the Year, 2001-2002 Teen Ink Magazine National Educator of the Year, to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, The Louisiana Urban Forestry Council Educator Award honors Educators and Education Projects that are improving Urban Forestry Programs within their own community. Projects are judged on impact, quality, and innovation. Four years ago Mr. Guillot started the LaBranche Wetland Watchers Service - Learning Project where middle school students worked along side experts from the community to plant trees, perform water quality testing, identify plants, have hands-on experience with local wildlife, test for soil quality, and learn about the many values and challenges facing Louisiana Wetlands.
