IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Coach Ulysses Frontha and his wife Cynthia are residents of Destrehan, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish and are the proud parents of their son Joseph; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Frontha is the first African American Athlete to graduate from Destrehan High School in 1969; is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and a United States Air Force Veteran; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Frontha started his teaching and coaching career in 1979 in Shreveport, Louisiana at Huntington High where his track team won the State Championship in 1987 and 1988, and he was named Track Coach of the Year in 1988; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Frontha moved to Destrehan High School in 1991 and continued with an outstanding teaching and coaching career; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Frontha's 1997 Girls Track Team were State Runner-ups; 1999 he was named District Girls Basketball Coach of the Year; and his 2003 Girls Basketball Team were State Sweet 16 Participants; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Frontha was given the highest honor by being named 5A Girls Basketball All-State Coach of the Year leading the Destrehan Lady Cats to a 26-7 overall record this season and led the Team to its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1965.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
ULYSSES FRONTHA
2003 CLASS 5A ALL-STATE
COACH OF THE YEAR
