Proclamation: "National County Government Month"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, the Nation's 3,068 Counties provide a variety of essential public services to communities serving more than 300 million Americans; and,
WHEREAS, in Louisiana, Counties are designated as Parishes; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish and all Counties around the Nation take seriously their responsibility to protect and enhance the health, welfare, and safety of its residents in sensible and cost-effective ways; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish honors and thanks our residents who have served this Country through military service; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish Government delivers many important services to its residents, including clean drinking water, wastewater services, recreation, emergency aid and response, planning and zoning, roads and drainage, and more; and,
WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties is the only national organization that represents County Governments in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties across the country to actively promote their own programs and services; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish and the National Association of Counties are working together to restore the partnership among all levels of government to better serve American communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF APRIL, 2011 AS
"NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT MONTH"
AND ENCOURAGE ALL PARISH OFFICIALS, EMPLOYEES, SCHOOLS, AND RESIDENTS TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE LOCAL POLITICAL PROCESS AND LEARN ABOUT THE MANY SERVICES OF PARISH GOVERNMENT BY LOGGING ON TO STCHARLESPARISH-LA.GOV OR BY WATCHING THE GOVERNMENT ACCESS CHANNEL COX CABLE 6.
