IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Sheriff Gregory C. Champagne and his wife Alice are residents of Luling, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish, they are the proud parents of one daughter Rochelle, a student at Louisiana State University and one son Gregory, Jr., a senior at Hahnville High School; and,
WHEREAS, Sheriff Champagne is a graduate of Hahnville High School, has an undergraduate degree from Nicholls State University and his Juris Doctorate from LSU Law Center in Baton Rouge; and,
WHEREAS, Sheriff Champagne is a Civil Attorney, worked as Assistant District Attorney, 29th Judicial District from 1982 to 1996 and is presently Sheriff of St. Charles Parish. He was first elected in 1995 and re-elected in 1999 and 2001. As Sheriff he manages a law enforcement agency with 325 employees including 225 sworn enforcement personnel and overseas a $20 million dollar annual budget; and,
WHEREAS, Sheriff Champagne has far too many accomplishments in this dossier to list; however, a few of the major achievements were the planning and construction of a 662 bed, state of the art, correctional facility by virtue of a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the Louisiana Department of Corrections and the St. Charles Parish Council. He has an excellent working relationship with all surrounding state and federal law enforcement agencies in the metropolitan New Orleans area, and is presently working on the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office becoming nationally accredited by C.A.L.E.A, all being accomplished with no tax increase; and,
WHEREAS, Sheriff Champagne, the only Sheriff in St. Charles Parish ever to be re-elected without opposition, was named 2003 Sheriff of the Year by Louisiana Victims' Coalition, holds various certifications in numerous seminars and training courses on various law and law enforcement topi...
