Proclamation: Child Abuse Prevention Month

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, child abuse is one of the most pressing family health and social problems in society today. The overall incident of child abuse and the severity of assaults upon our abused children has increased during the past year; and,
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a problem, the solution for which depends upon the commitment of citizens of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, Child Advocacy Services is a parish-wide, private, non-profit umbrella agency providing services through the Children's Advocacy Center Programs, Court Appointed Special Advocates Program, as well as, other various initiatives supporting our mission to give Voice, Healing, and Security to Children; and,
WHEREAS, Child Advocacy Services is taking a leadership role in the River Parishes Community to educate the public about child abuse and its prevention along with Community Partners, St. Charles Sheriff's Office, St. Charles District Attorney's Office, Office of Community Services, St. Charles Public School System, various church groups, and businesses in the community; and,
WHEREAS, all citizens should become involved in supporting families and raising their children in a safe, nurturing environment; and,
WHEREAS, Child Advocacy Services in conjunction with many children's rights organizations, states, counties, and municipalities recognize April 2008 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM APRIL 2008 AS
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
