Title
A resolution asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to hasten the production of new flood maps for the East Bank of St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, on January 20, 2009, St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 5612; and,
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5612 declared St. Charles Parishes choice to continue to enforce the Advisory Base Flood Elevation until such time as the Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity Hurricane Protection Project Restoration has reached sufficient progress to yield a final more permanent assessment of the flood risk on the East Bank of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, in a News Release dated May 31, 2011, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that the Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity Hurricane Protection Project had achieved the 100-year level of risk reduction; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish would like to pursue the adoption of new flood maps which reflect this achievement and further reflect the best assessment of flood risks in a timely manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby ask the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to hasten the production of new flood maps for the East Bank of St. Charles Parish.
