Proclamation: American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Month

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, American Cancer Society will celebrate the St. Charles Parish Relay For Life Event on November 3, 2001; and,
WHEREAS, over eight million Americans alive today have a history of cancer; and,
WHEREAS, five million Americans are alive who were diagnosed with cancer five or more years ago; and,
WHEREAS, today, statistics show that when adjusted for normal life expectancy, a relative five year survival rate of 59 percent is seen for all cancer; and,
WHEREAS, an increase in community awareness of cancer, new research findings and the American Cancer Society may encourage the community to take public action in increasing research toward a cure and inspire individuals to keep fighting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 2001 AS
THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S RELAY FOR LIFE MONTH
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH, AND URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN US IN PAYING TRIBUTE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH CANCER FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR SOCIETY.
