Proclamation: “Women’s Lung Health Week”

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, every eight minutes, one woman in the United States loses her battle with lung cancer; and,
WHEREAS, lung cancer is the No. 1 cancer killer of women and men in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, advocacy and increased awareness will result in screening and early detection for people with lung cancer that will ultimately save lives; and,
WHEREAS, public support for research funding will result in better treatment and early detection methods that will ultimately save lives; and,
WHEREAS, Lung Force is a national initiative led by the American Lung Association, to fight against lung cancer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM MAY 8-12, 2017, AS:
"WOMEN’S LUNG HEALTH WEEK”
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND ENCOURAGE ALL RESIDENTS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT LUNG CANCER, RISK FACTORS, AND SCREENING OPTIONS.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT ON THURSDAY, MAY 11, 2017, ST. CHARLES PARISH WILL JOIN THE LUNG FORCE MOVEMENT AND HAVE A “TURQUOISE TAKEOVER DAY”, URGING ALL CITIZENS TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY LUNG CANCER BY COMMEMORATING THIS DAY BY WEARING THE COLOR TURQUOISE.
