IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Ms. Tammy Windmann has been teaching Social Studies at Harry Hurst Middle School in Destrehan, Louisiana for the past seven years; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Windmann was very instrumental in bringing “The Wall That Heals” to St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, “The Wall That Heals” is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial designed to travel to communities throughout the United States, complete with the names of 58,249 Brave Soldiers who either lost their lives in conflict or went missing from Vietnam; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Windmann worked diligently for almost two years on the process of bringing “The Wall That Heals” to St. Charles Parish, several site parameter criteria had to be met in order for our community to be chosen; and,
WHEREAS, this year, Destrehan was one of only twenty other communities in the United States chosen to display “The Wall That Heals”; and,
WHEREAS, on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, Louisiana State Troopers, in conjunction with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, escorted the traveling replica to Harry Hurst Middle School, where it was assembled by many Volunteers on the football field; and,
WHEREAS, an Opening Ceremony was held on Thursday, May 7, 2009, where “The Wall That Heals” remained on display for 24 hours a day allowing all citizens to view the monument, honor the legacy, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country; and,
WHEREAS, on Sunday, May 10, 2009, a candle-light ceremony concluded this heartfelt event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
TAMMY WINDMANN
for her outstanding efforts and dedication in bringing “The Wall That Heals” experience to the residents of St. Charles Parish.
