Title
A resolution requesting that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers expedite its decision on the alignment of the Donaldsonville to the Gulf of Mexico Hurricane Protection Levee, specifically in the area that impacts St. Charles Parish, by July 1, 2008.
Body
WHEREAS, the Residents of the West Bank of St. Charles Parish are vulnerable to the intrusion of flood waters caused by heavy rains or hurricanes; and,
WHEREAS, hurricane season starts on June 1, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, the effects and damage caused by Hurricane Katrina on the Southeast Coast of Louisiana was an eye opener revealing the possible devastation that the Residents of St. Charles Parish are susceptible to in the event of either direct or indirect hit to the area; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of St. Charles Parish have anxiously awaited this Project for several years.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers expedite its decision on the alignment of the Donaldsonville to the Gulf of Mexico Hurricane Protection Levee, specifically in the area that impacts St. Charles Parish, by July 1, 2008.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., Representative Ernest D. Wooton, U. S. Senator David Vitter, U. S. Representative Charlie Melancon, U. S. Representative Mary Landrieu, and to the Lafourche Basin Levee District asking their assistance in this regard.

And the resolution was declared adopted this day of , 2008, to become effective five (5) days after publication in the Official Journal.
