TRIBUTE
Division B, Councilman-At-Large JARVIS LEWIS is a native of St. Charles Parish and graduate of both Hahnville High School and Xavier University of Louisiana.
Jarvis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and communication studies. He focused his studies on government, policy, administration and communications. While attending Xavier University, he continued to be deeply involved in St. Charles Parish and in 2012 was appointed to serve as a member of the St. Charles Parish Library Board of Control. He became an employee of the St. Charles Parish Tax Assessor's Office and following graduation, he was commissioned as a Deputy Tax Assessor. The focus of his job responsibilities was working with individuals to resolve assessment issues. The opportunity to serve the public was rewarding and led to his decision to enter the race for Councilman-At-Large, Division B.
Jarvis was elected to the Parish Council at the Special Election held April 5, 2014, taking office May 19, 2014 as Councilman-At-Large, Division B. Upon his election, he became the first African-American to hold a parish wide position in 140 years.
Jarvis actively supports programs such as Louisiana Boys State, which he attended and served as a counselor, the St. Charles Parish 4-H Club, where he serves as an adult volunteer, the Martin Luther King Commemorative Organization of St. Charles Parish, and various local church initiatives.
Jarvis served as Chairman of the Contract/Finance and Administrative Committee, a member of the Operations, Maintenance and Construction Management Committee, Legislative Committee, Special Projects/Public Safety, Health, and Environmental Committee, and Hurricane Protection Projects Committee.
