Proclamation: Household Hazardous Material Collection Day

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, the majority of community residents have various necessary and useful materials stored in and around their homes and apartments that could also cause harm to the environment if not handled and disposed of properly; and,
WHEREAS, any such unused or old materials should not be placed in the regular garbage collection system due to potential environmental problems; and,
WHEREAS, there is no local drop off or collection point for these household hazardous materials; and,
WHEREAS, as seeing a need to provide this public service for residents of St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes, thirteen local Companies are sponsoring the Third Annual Household Hazardous Material Collection Day on October 28, 2000; and
WHEREAS, on this day certain household hazardous materials will be accepted and properly disposed of or recycled; and,
WHEREAS, an information notice is being aired on Cable Channel 6 notifying the residents of the upcoming October 28, 2000 Collection Day and will provide local residents with everything they need to know; and,
WHEREAS, this event has been recognized by Governor Foster through the State's Environmental Excellence Award Program in the Community Outreach Category; and,
WHEREAS, we anticipate another positive and successful community event to follow-up the major success of the previous two events.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM OCTOBER 28, 2000 AS
"HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS MATERIAL COLLECTION DAY"
AND RECOGNIZE THE THIRTEEN PARTICIPATING COMPANIES FOR THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Bayou Steel, DuPont, DuPont Dow Elastomers, Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC, Monsanto, Montell, Motiva, Nalco, Occidental Chemical, Pinnacle Polymers, Shell Chemical, Stockhausen, and Union Carbide
