Proclamation: "National Kidney Month" and "World Kidney Day" in St. Charles Parish

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, kidneys are vital organs that remove waste and toxins, regulate blood pressure, balance fluids, and support overall health and wellness; and,
WHEREAS, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health issue affecting more than 37 million adults in the United States, and over 460,000 are in the state of Louisiana, many individuals are unaware of this condition until it is too late; and,
WHEREAS, kidney disease is often caused by diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease. Simple blood and urine tests can detect kidney disease, allowing timely treatment to slow or prevent its progression; and,
WHEREAS, March is known as National Kidney Month, and Thursday, March 12, 2026, as World Kidney Day; and,
WHEREAS, The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana works to raise public awareness about kidney health, provides kidney health screenings, and educates about the life-changing impact of living organ donation; and,
WHEREAS, The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana aims to unite communities in advocacy, support and education for individuals and families affected by kidney disease.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MARCH 2026 AS
"NATIONAL KIDNEY MONTH"
AND PROCLAIM THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2026
AS
"WORLD KIDNEY DAY"
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND URGE ALL CITIZENS TO PRIORITIZE THEIR KIDNEY HEALTH BY GETTING TESTED, SUPPORT THOSE LIVING WITH KIDNEY DISEASE, AND CONSIDER THE SELFLESS ACT OF BECOMING A LIVING ORGAN DONOR.
