Title
A resolution strongly requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development install a signal light at the intersection of LA Highway 3127 and LA Highway 3142.
Body
WHEREAS, existing and expanding industries along the River have caused the traffic at this intersection to increase as more than 5,000 employees travel to and from work at the numerous industrial facilities; and,
WHEREAS, vehicles traveling at high speeds along LA Hwy 3127 makes it difficult for vehicles entering from LA Hwy 3142 to safely access the roadway; and,
WHEREAS, numerous accidents have occurred at this intersection and recently a DOW Chemical employee was fatally injured at this intersection while traveling on his way to work; and,
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development has a responsibility to protect the citizens from hazardous driving conditions by installing a signal light that would reduce the potential for accidents; and,
WHEREAS, both LA Highways 3127 and 3142 are evacuation routes requiring safe movement of traffic during manmade and natural disasters.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL do hereby strongly request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development install a signal light at the intersection of LA Highway 3127 and LA Highway 3142.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation & Development Secretary Ms. Sherri LeBas, Department of Transportation & Development District Administrator Mr. Michael Stack, Senator Gary L. Smith, Jr., Senator Troy Brown, and Representative Gregory A. Miller asking their assistance in this regard.
