IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Gina Caillouet and her husband Warner “Speedy” Caillouet are lifelong residents of St. Charles Parish currently residing in New Sarpy. They are the proud parents of Travis and Samantha and have one grandson, Skyler; and,
WHEREAS, Gina has been an employee for St. Charles Parish School Board for 14 years as a School Bus Driver; and,
WHEREAS, on Friday, July 18, 2008, while coming off the westbound Interstate 310 exit ramp onto Airline Drive in a blinding rainstorm, Mr. Warren Williams' sport utility vehicle slid into the Airline Drive Canal; and,
WHEREAS, Gina and her fraternal twin sister Judy driving separate vehicles, saw the accident and stopped to help; and,
WHEREAS, Gina and Judy witnessed Mr. Williams exit his vehicle through a window and enter the canal where he began to struggle to stay above water; and,
WHEREAS, Gina and Judy with no thought for their own safety, reacted quickly by jumping into the water and linked their arms together to help Mr. Williams to the bank of the canal; and,
WHEREAS, Gina, facing Mr. Williams tried to help him stay above water and in the process was pulled under and her sister Judy pulled them both back to the surface; and,
WHEREAS, someone standing on the bank of the canal grabbed the umbrella Judy held in her free hand to pull them all to safety; and,
WHEREAS, Gina should be publicly recognized for her unselfish act in risking her own life to save the life of another.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
GINA CAILLOUET
for her unselfish and courageous act
in helping rescue
