Title
A resolution offering full support of all Plaquemines Parish Government Elected Officials to strongly recommend and urge the Federal Government to reconsider their decision to exclude Plaquemines Parish from the Federal Government's Plan to re-enhance levees in South Louisiana.
Body
WHEREAS, it has been brought to the Plaquemines Parish Government's attention that Plaquemines Parish has been excluded from the Federal Government's Plan to invest $2.5 Billion Dollars in South Louisiana for levee re-enhancement; and,
WHEREAS, the Federal Government has stated their final decision would be based on further study of its cost-effectiveness; and,
WHEREAS, Plaquemines Parish, with its unique structure, is a buffer zone for Tropical Storms and Hurricanes and should be considered a top priority for levee protection as well as coastal restoration immediately; and,
WHEREAS, Plaquemines Parish is vitally important in economic status for our entire country; and,
WHEREAS, it has been stated the cost to be included in the Levee Re-enhancement Plan would equal $190,000.00 per person which they believe is not cost effective. How can they put a price on human lives?; and,
WHEREAS, while this plan may take up to two years, Plaquemines Parish residents need to know now that their lives and property are as precious and important to the Federal Government as all of South Louisiana residents who are included in their Plan; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish President Albert D. Laque and all members of the Parish Council in a unified effort support the Plaquemines Parish Government elected officials and strongly recommend and urge the Federal Government to reconsider their decision and include Plaquemines Parish in the effort to re-enhance levees in South Louisiana.
