IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, on March 23, 2025, the Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has seen fit to call from among us one of His most worthy servants, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Deputy Sergeant Grant Candies; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Candies, a seven year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Deputy since 2016, was killed in the line of duty while courageously serving his community; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Candies, was killed by a driver fleeing a traffic stop on Interstate I-10 in Slidell; Sergeant Candies deployed a spike strip to assist with stopping the vehicle pursuit when he was struck by the suspects; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Candies, was born and raised in Luling, Louisiana, and dedicated his life to law enforcement, which was inspired by his father, retired Captain Mark Candies of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, who served his community for over 30 years; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Candies, is the fifth deputy to give his life in the line of duty since the formation of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Candies, is survived by his loving wife Courtney, cherished children Brenna and Bryson, and his parents Mark Candies and Bettye Jean Freeman.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, duly assembled on this 5th day of May, 2025, do hereby express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of
SERGEANT GRANT CANDIES
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Sergeant Candies' sacrifice in the course of protecting the people be forever remembered by our community and that his family have our heartfelt deepest sympathy from every resident of St. Charles Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a page in the Official Minute Book of the St. Charles Parish Council be set aside to record this Memoriam and when this Meeting is adjourned, it shall be done ...
