IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Dana “Pokey” Chatman is a native of Ama, Louisiana and currently resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, “Pokey” is a 1987 Graduate of Hahnville High School and graduated from LSU in 1991 with a Bachelor's Degree; and,
WHEREAS, “Pokey” has a long history in basketball and continued her outstanding basketball career at LSU as Starting Point Guard from 1987 to 1991, as well as receiving the following recognitions: 1988 - NCAA First Round - Freshman All-SEC Team, 1989 - NCAA Sweet 16 First Team All-SEC, 1990 - NCAA First Round - First Team All-SEC; and,
WHEREAS, “Pokey” topped off her college career by being selected to the Prestigious Kodak All-American Team following her 1991 Senior season, SEC Tournament MVP, First Team All-SEC; and,
WHEREAS, “Pokey” started her college coaching career in 1991-92 as Student Assistant Coach, 1992-99 as Assistant Coach, 1999-2004 as Associate Coach, and on April 27, 2004 promoted to Head Coach of the LSU Lady Tigers, becoming the fourth Head Coach in the program's history; and,
WHEREAS, from 1992 to 2004 “Pokey” has numerous highlights throughout her Coaching Career as Assistant Coach and to name a few, Women's NIT, NCAA Sweet 16 (twice), Women's NIT Final Four, NCAA Elite Eight, NCAA Second Round (twice), and 2003 NCAA Elite Eight/SEC Tournament Champs; 2004 topping off her Career as Associate Coach guided the Lady Tigers to the programs first trip to the NCAA Final Four; and,
WHEREAS, in the spring of 1999, “Pokey” was inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to having a reputation as one of the nation's best Recruiters, “Pokey” is also thought to be one of the top up-and-coming Coaches in the Collegiate Ranks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, ...
