IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, on September 9, 2011, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, saw fit to call from amongst us one of his most worthy servants, Henry A. "Buster, Smitty" Smith, Jr.; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith, a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish, husband of the late Donyce Jackson Smith, father of Glen Smith and Gary Smith, Sr. and the late Kirk Smith, grandfather of State Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., Rebecca Tassin and Madison Smith, great-grandfather of Ashlyn Tassin, Megan Tassin, and Henry Smith, and devoted companion to Cathy Montz; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith worked until his death in his well-known construction company of 25 years Fremin-Smith Services and was the nucleus and guiding force of the development of the Magnolia Companies, a multi-company conglomerate; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith represented St. Charles Parish in many different capacities: the New Orleans Aviation Board for over 26 years, Elected Member to the Democratic State Central Committee for over 20 years, as well as Treasurer of the State Democratic Party, and a business leader and philanthropist; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was a Member of the American Legion, served in the Air Force during the Korean War, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Jerusalem Temple, was past President of the River Parish Kiwanis Club, a Member of the Norco Civic Association, Board Member for the St. James Bank and Trust and the First National Bank of St. Bernard, founding Member and past President of the New Orleans and River Region Chamber of Commerce, and a Member of the State Board of Commerce and Industry; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith, a lover of music and dancing, enjoyed his time spent as a Member of the Oldies But Goodies Dance Club; his smile, sense of humor, and his kindness will live on in all of us; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith's greatest passion in life was politics; active as a very young man...
