Proclamation: Soil and Water Stewardship Week

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, our well-being depends on the production of ample food, fiber and other products of the soil; and,
WHEREAS, the quality and quantity of these products depend on the conservation, wise use and proper management of soil and water resources; and,
WHEREAS, protection of our water from pollution depends on sound conservation practices; and,
WHEREAS, conservation districts provide a practical and democratic organization through which landowners take the initiative to conserve and make proper use of these resources; and,
WHEREAS, the conservation movement is carrying forward a program of soil and water conservation in partnership with many private and public organizations and individuals; and,
WHEREAS, this year's theme, “The Living Soil”, focuses on the importance of teaching our children to conserve our valuable natural resources in order to prepare them for the conservation challenges of the future; and,
WHEREAS, the most important concept is the need for everyone, no matter where they live, to practice good soil and water stewardship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, IN FULL APPRECIATION OF THE VALUE OF OUR SOIL AND WATER TO THE PUBLIC WELFARE, AND DESIRING TO HONOR THOSE WHO PROTECT THOSE RESOURCES, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF APRIL 25 - MAY 2, 2004, AS
"SOIL AND WATER STEWARDSHIP WEEK"
