Title
A resolution to request that the Regional Planning Commission accept St. Charles Parish as a full and equal voting member of the Transportation Policy Committee and the Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Body
WHEREAS, the Transportation Policy Committee of the Regional Planning Commission has been designated by the Governor of the state of Louisiana as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the New Orleans urbanized area; and,
WHEREAS, the MPO is responsible for conducting transportation planning activities in accordance with state and federal guidelines; and,
WHEREAS, under the provisions of Title 23, United States Code, "Highways," as amended, funds have been appropriated out of the Federal Highway Trust Fund to finance transportation planning and projects on the approved Federal-Aid System under the direction of the MPO; and,
WHEREAS, the parish of St. Charles and the Transportation Policy Committee acting in its capacity as the Metropolitan Planning Organization, for the New Orleans urbanized area are mutually agreeable to the inclusion of the parish of St. Charles as a full and equal voting member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization; and,
WHEREAS, this action has been determined to be in the interest of the general public and consistent with the goals of St. Charles Parish to increase traffic safety and improve transportation mobility within the parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we the members of the St. Charles Parish Council do hereby requests the Regional Planning Commission to accept the Parish of St. Charles as full and equal voting member of RPC's Transportation Policy Committee and Metropolitan Planning Organization for the New Orleans urbanized area.
