IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, William "Ed" Wahden, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and currently resides in Luling, Louisiana with his wife of 48 years Mariela; they are the proud parents of two children, Ed Wahden, III and Marisa Maestri and seven grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Ed, a graduate of Jesuit High School, was the first player to hit a home run out of Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in New Orleans; and,
WHEREAS, Ed received a baseball scholarship to Loyola University and was primarily known for his prowess as a slugger during his years on the baseball team from 1958 to 1962; and,
WHEREAS, the early 1960's was the hey-day of Loyola baseball during which time Ed and his Wolf Pack teammates went 50-8 and was invited to the NCAA tournament. He was selected in his senior year as Captain of the team and led the Wolf Pack to a 15-3 record; and,
WHEREAS, Ed became a lieutenant in the Army where he was stationed in Germany continuing in the National Guard and eventually retiring as a Captain; and,
WHEREAS, Ed worked for 30 years at Entergy (formerly known as Louisiana Power and Light) and eventually became a regional manager. He is currently a Real Estate Agent for Latter & Blum in Luling; and,
WHEREAS, Ed has been a resident of St. Charles Parish since 1976 and has made an impact on the community as a founding member of the St. Charles Parish Rotary and Vice-President of the River Region Chamber of Commerce; and,
WHEREAS, in 1981, Ed started the recreation soccer league for the St. Charles Parish Recreation Department and still provides assistance to the league. He helps Loyola students by serving on the Rags Scheuermann Scholarship Fund Committee; and,
WHEREAS, Ed, a pillar of St. Charles Parish, was recently inducted into the Loyola Wolf Pack Hall of Fame on the merits of his baseball playing in the late 1950's and early 1960's.
