IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lorraine Gendron, is a resident of St. Charles Parish residing in Hahnville, Louisiana with her husband of 69 years, Louis. They are the proud parents of 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Lorraine is a self-taught, local artist, who began creating art in the 1980’s when the region experienced economic hardship after oil prices collapsed and her husband, the primary breadwinner, who worked as an oil and gas pipefitter, was temporarily out of work; and,
WHEREAS, Lorraine had created folk art pieces using Mississippi River mud, and now creates art using wood cutouts as her primary medium, all painted by hand, which her husband cuts for her in various shapes and patterns; and,
WHEREAS, Lorraine’s folk artwork has been exhibited at the White House on numerous occasions, the Smithsonian Institute, the Gallery at the Library of Congress, and many, many others. Her work has also been displayed every year at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for decades; and,
WHEREAS, as a working artist for several decades, Lorraine has no intentions of slowing down, joking, “I used to tell people I’m going to live to be 120, well I might just do that now.”
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby express our sincere thanks and appreciation to
MRS. LORRAINE GENDRON
