Title
An ordinance to amend the St. Charles Parish Code of Ordinances, Chapter 16 Nuisances, Article II, Abandoned, Junked or Wrecked Vehicles, Section 16-12 Removal by Parish to lessen the time to remove abandoned/derelict vehicles which are located on public right-of-ways.
Body
WHEREAS, It is in the best interests of the public health, safety and welfare of St. Charles Parish to remove abandoned/derelict vehicles from public right-of-ways; and,
WHEREAS, Currently, the St. Charles Parish Code of Ordinances requires a ten day waiting period before derelict vehicles can be removed; and,
WHEREAS, The St. Charles Parish Council desires to lessen the waiting period for removing abandoned/derelict vehicles from public right-of-ways to three (3) days; and,
WHEREAS, The St. Charles Parish Council desires to impose a removal fee of $250.00 for each abandoned/derelict vehicle removed from the public right-of-ways.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That the St. Charles Parish Code of Ordinances, Chapter 16, Article II, Section 16-12, (b).thru (c), is hereby amended as follows:
(b) For purposes of determining the status of any such junked, wrecked, derelict or abandoned automobile or motor vehicle, the Department of Public Works or any other Department so designated by the Parish President, shall appoint inspectors who may be any of the personnel of that Department at the discretion of the Director, who shall mark down the location, the type, make, color and license registration, if there be any, of the vehicle. The inspectors shall tag and number such cars and provide ten (10) days' three (3) days notice of the intention of the Parish to remove from public right-of-ways and/or public property and destroy the said motor vehicles.
