IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Joval Walker, is a native of St. Charles Parish and is employed by The Dow Chemical Company as St. Charles Operations Public Affairs Senior Administrative Assistant and Education Outreach Coordinator; and,
WHEREAS, The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Recognition Award is presented to employees who demonstrate a significant commitment to encouraging and promoting racial harmony and unity within the workplace and community; and,
WHEREAS, Joval's vision of showing appreciation for the contributions of African Americans in the St. Charles area was realized through her efforts to celebrate Black History Month. She was able to involve a broad spectrum of people in the event - Dow Employees, local Officials, Students, Teachers, Area Residents - who may not have otherwise joined together in an event; and,
WHEREAS, Joval is a member of the African American Network and the Hispanic Latin Network at Dow, is active in identifying opportunities for the Networks' involvement in local community activities, and has been very effective in soliciting employee volunteers for the various community outreach projects undertaken by Dow; and,
WHEREAS, Joval volunteers her personal time for United Way, food drives, and other social needs activities in the community, serves as a role model for young adults, promotes her own and the Company's value of Respect, and has taken on a leadership role in seeking out opportunities to bring various social and educational issues to the forefront; and,
WHEREAS, Joval is the 2003 recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recognition Award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
