Title
An ordinance to approve and authorize the execution of a Contract for Engineering Services with Volkert & Associates, Inc. for necessary professional engineering services associated with Parish Project No. P061102 Montz Drainage - KCS Canal Improvements.
Body
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council desires to have the following described project undertaken:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Engineering services for Parish Project No. P061102 Montz Drainage - KCS Canal Improvements. The service will include but will not be limited to serving as Owner's professional engineering representative for the Project, providing professional engineering consultation and advice, and furnishing customary civil, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering services and construction engineering and inspection; and,
WHEREAS, KCS Canal is the major drainage conveyance for the Montz area and the section of the KCS Canal between Evangeline Road and the KCS Train trestle carries a significant portion of the storm water during heavy rain events; and,
WHEREAS, the KCS Canal is restricted with sediment and undersized culverts, causing restrictions in the drainage capacity for the Montz area. It is proposed to remove three culverts and replace one with the same capacity as recently installed under Evangeline Road. As one of the culverts is under a high power Entergy Tower, the Canal will have to be rerouted around the tower with erosion control structures to eliminate the possibility of undermining the foundation of the Entergy Power Tower; and,
WHEREAS, the opinion of probable budget is as follows:
Engineering Services (Basic & inspection) $ 56,000
Construction $ 700,000
Other Project Cost $ 144,000
Advertising, recordation, Land Acquisition,
Right-of-Ways, Permits, Surveying, Soil Testing, etc.
