Title
A resolution to support legislation allowing the extension of the West Bank and Vicinity Hurricane Protection Project for Jefferson Parish into St. Charles Parish to provide hurricane protection for the Community of Ama.
Body
WHEREAS, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development and the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - West Bank are currently working on construction of the West Bank and Vicinity Hurricane Protection Project for Jefferson Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed plan for this Project would extend the current Hurricane Protection Levee in Jefferson Parish westward along U. S. Highway 90 to the Davis Pond Diversion Levee and then North to LA 18 (River Road); and,
WHEREAS, this alignment would provide the most expedient and cost effective method for Hurricane Protection to the residents of Ama; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council and the Parish President to support said Project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby express our full support for State Legislation to enable the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - West Bank to extend the West Bank and Vicinity Hurricane Protection Project for Jefferson Parish into St. Charles Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT WE, do hereby request that Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton introduce and support said Legislation in the 2008 Regular Session of the Louisiana State Legislature.
