IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department is beginning its 50th year of dedicated service to the citizens of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department was organized in August of 1967, originally under the name KTH Department, representing Killona, Taft, and Hahnville until 1979 when Killona formed its own department; and,
WHEREAS, the department started out with a single Seagrave 500 gms pumper which was housed in personal sheds until a fire station was built by the firefighters in 1969. Funding was very limited and was acquired from fairs, door to door collections, and can shakes, but much of the early progress was funded by the firefighters themselves; and,
WHEREAS, Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department's main firehouse at 169 Lincoln Street in Hahnville has stood the test of time, operating as its original headquarters even today. A second firehouse was later established on River Road. The department currently maintains three pumpers, one rescue unit, and a salvage unit that carries 3,000 feet of large diameter hose; and,
WHEREAS, Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department's response area covers 15 square miles, serving the 3rd District of St. Charles Parish and includes two school buildings, the courthouse, multiple neighborhoods, as well as aiding many industrial facilities such as Dow Chemical, Waterford 3 Nuclear Power Plant, and various others; and,
WHEREAS, Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department members are very committed and involved in the safety and protection of its community and continue to enhance the quality of service to residents of St. Charles Parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this recognition and tribute to the
HAHNVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
