RESOLUTION NO.
Title
A resolution to express strong opposition to the removal of the programming guide by Cox Cable from its analog cable service and to request that it be reinstated.
Body
WHEREAS, since the inception of Cable Television in our Parish customers have had the opportunity to view a programming guide of all cable television channels carried by the Cable System; and,
WHEREAS, on December 29, 2005, Cox Communications eliminated the programming guide for all analog customers of its Cable Television System; and,
WHEREAS, the elimination of the programming guide has left thousands of Cox Cable Television customers with standard service, at a cost of over $40.00 per month, with no way to determine what shows are on Cable Television; and,
WHEREAS, Cox Communications states that the programming guide was removed to provide additional space for HDTV broadcast by local stations, however, analog cable consists of broadcasting on Channels 2 through 79, 98, and 99; and,
WHEREAS, it would be possible for Cox Communications to eliminate a less utilized channel than the programming guide out of 70 channels offered on analog cable; and,
WHEREAS, the Parish has received numerous complaints from Cox customers requesting that a programming guide be reinstated; and,
WHEREAS, Cox Communications suggest to its customers that they purchase a written programming guide or a more expensive and complicated digital cable service to have access to a programming guide; and,
WHEREAS, this option is an unnecessary expense and burden on the analog customers of Cox Cable Television.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby request and petition Cox Communications to reinstate a programming guide on its Analog Cable Television System.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be sent to Mr. Greg Bicket, Vice-Preside...
