Title
A resolution asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to install School Zone signs and flashing lights at the Highway 90 and LA 632 intersection.
Body
WHEREAS, Allemands Elementary School is located a short distance from a major highway intersection - Highway 90 and LA 632; and,
WHEREAS, school buses filled with children, vehicles carrying teachers and support staff, as well as parents and other parties frequenting the school premises are required to approach and turn at this busy intersection; and,
WHEREAS, approaching and turning at this busy Highway 90 intersection in order to reach Allemands Elementary School is similar to approaching and turning off Highway 90 in order to reach J.B. Martin and R.J. Vial Schools; and,
WHEREAS, citizens have expressed their concerns regarding the safety of this intersection; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish deputies have expressed concern for their safety when working this intersection to allow school busses in and out of LA 632.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby ask the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to install School Zone signs and flashing lights at the Highway 90 and LA 632 intersection.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, St. Charles Parish School Board Transportation Department, State Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., State Senator Joel Chaisson, and Des Allemands Fire Department have expressed their support for the installation of the signs and signals as indicated with the attached correspondence.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution and attached correspondence be sent to Mr. Michael Stack, District Administrator of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Ms. Sherri LeBas, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation...
