IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, the German Coast Farmers' Market, a non-profit organization operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, was established to encourage the ability of farmers and small vendors to reach the public directly with the freshest of produce and home-grown and produced products; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of the German Coast Farmers' Market is to serve as a community gathering place, tourist destination, and a market for a wide range of fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, and other value-added items; and,
WHEREAS, the German Coast Farmers' Market has venues on both the East and West bank of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the German Coast Farmers' Market recently celebrated its 8th Anniversary; and,
WHEREAS, the German Coast Farmers' Market has been named Louisiana's Favorite Farmers Market for the second consecutive year by American Farmland Trust; and,
WHEREAS, the German Coast Farmers' Market is also ranked 8th in the United States for small markets; and,
WHEREAS, more than 80,000 people voted in this year's American's Favorite Farmers' Markets contest with over 1,700 Farmers' Markets participating.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby recognize the German Coast Farmers' Market as
"LOUISIANA'S FAVORITE
FARMERS' MARKET"
"PARISH OF PLENTY"
created in 1807 from the county of the
"German Coast", a parish of
unprecedented economic and social
development, known for its
hospitality, rural living and sporting
opportunitiesÂ… with the added
distinction of being located
on both sides of the
Mighty Mississippi River.
