Title
An ordinance to amend the Code of Ordinances, Article II, Section 2-18 to designate the Department of Emergency Preparedness as the Homeland Security Agency for St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Ordinance No. 80-6-3 on June 9, 1980 which created the Department of Emergency Preparedness and provided for its functions and responsibilities; and,
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Legislature has amended the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness and Assistance Act of 1993 to include “Homeland Security” functions; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council to officially designate the Department of Emergency Preparedness as the Parish Agency to handle Homeland Security responsibilities.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That the St. Charles Parish Code, Article II, Section 2-18 is hereby amended by adding (d) to read as follows:
(d) This department shall serve as the Parish Homeland Security Agency and shall be responsible for all Parish Homeland Security activities to include Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery from Homeland Security events. The Department shall coordinate with all private, parish, state and federal agencies on Homeland Security activities.
