Title
A resolution requesting that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development to install a “Left Turn Acceleration Lane” on Airline Drive (LA 61) when exiting East Harding Street in New Sarpy.
Body
WHEREAS, according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Chapter 1A the purpose of traffic control devices, as well as the principles for their use, is to promote highway safety and efficiency by providing for the orderly movement of all road users on streets and highways throughout the Nation; and,
WHEREAS, East Harding Street is the primary means of traveling to Airline Drive for residents of New Sarpy; and,
WHEREAS, with the enormous amount of traffic traveling at high rates of speed, and during peak traffic periods, it has created a very dangerous and difficult situation for vehicles when crossing over and turning left onto Airline Drive when exiting East Harding Street; and,
WHEREAS, for the safety, health, and welfare of the St. Charles Parish residents and all motorists who travel through this area of our Community, the St. Charles Parish Governing Authority is requesting the implementation of a “Left Turn Acceleration Lane” in this area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development install a “Left Turn Acceleration Lane” on Airline Drive (LA 61) when exiting East Harding Street in New Sarpy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal; Senator Gary L. Smith, Jr.; Representative Gregory A. Miller; the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Representatives: Secretary Sherri LaBas, District Administrator Michael Stack, and Traffic Operations Engineer Steve Strength requesting their assistance in this matter of public safety.
