Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and the Federal Highway Administration to site the I-49 Project in a more southerly direction from the LaFourche Parish line to the Jefferson Parish line bypassing the Boutte Commercial Corridor, the Luling Oxidization Pond, Willowdale Subdivision, and Willowridge Subdivision, paralleling Texaco Pipeline System.
Body
WHEREAS, the present proposals will have a detrimental effect on the Boutte Commercial Corridor with a negative impact on commercial tax revenue, jobs and wages in St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the present proposals will completely destroy the major commercial intersection in Boutte (Paul Maillard Road and Highway 90); and,
WHEREAS, the West Bank of St. Charles Parish has only one commercial corridor, Highway 90 and taking of available commercial land along this corridor is especially detrimental since there is very little other land on which commercial business can locate; and,
WHEREAS, the present proposed routes will destroy residential property that has been in some families for over 130 years; and,
WHEREAS, the present proposed route north of the railroad will exclusively destroy the Mt. Airy Cemetery, Community Center, and Church; and,
WHEREAS, using a more southerly route will address the future growth of St. Charles Parish which is located in the South West quadrant of the Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the I-310 hook-up to the proposed I-49 southerly route will address all commuter needs for St. Charles Parish from both East and West Banks; and,
WHEREAS, the highway system has developed good engineering and construction practices during I-310 construction in St Charles Parish and can employ the same techniques with minimum impact on the environment/wetlands compared to other parishes to obtain 404 permit.
