IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Shelley C. Hennig is a resident of St. Charles Parish residing in Destrehan, Louisiana and is the daughter of Glenn Hennig, Sr. and Catherine D. Hennig; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley is a Senior at Destrehan High School with dreams of succeeding in fashion or commercial print and plans to attend New York University; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley is an honor student and Senior Class Representative who was named "Academic Excellence Student", currently the co-captain of the Desty Darlings Dance Team, and recently voted Senior Class Senator; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley is an accomplished poetry writer with two poems published in "Young Authors Book of Poetry"; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley helped to plan and organize a fishing rodeo for Senior Citizens of the St. Charles Parish Council on Aging; planned and organized a Mardi Gras Ball for residents of Ormond Nursing Home; helped to paint the home of a needy family during Thanksgiving Holidays which she and her peers call "Paint a Promise" project; planned and organized a "Homeless Night" where she and her peers experienced homelessness for twelve hours; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley is an active participant in a program called "Pink Ladies" of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and participates in the Salvation Army "Adopt-an-Angel" program; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley's extra-curricular activities include modeling, writing, art, choreography, dancing, traveling, and shopping; and,
WHEREAS, Shelley will spend her year speaking with her peers about gun violence, anger management and how to cope with peer pressure and drugs, will work to affect change with organizations such as SHINE (Seeking Harmony in Neighborhoods Everyday), Pax (Real Solutions to Gun Violence), and the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign.
