Title
An ordinance to amend the Code of Ordinances, Section 15-9 Speed Limits, to lower the speed limit for trucks exceeding five (5) tons in weight to Fifteen (15) miles per hour on Willowdale Boulevard from East Heather Drive (formerly Third Street) to Lafayette Drive in Luling.
Body
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish is undertaking construction of the Willowridge Levee as part of the West Bank Hurricane Protection Levee Project; and,
WHEREAS, the levee project will result in a significant increase in traffic on Willowdale Boulevard related to construction activities; and,
WHEREAS, Paragraph (a) of Section 15-9 of the Code provides that is unlawful to operate any motor vehicle in excess of twenty-five (25) miles per hour on Parish streets; and,
WHEREAS, that Paragraph (a) of Section 15-9 of the Code has been amended to provide exceptions; and,
WHEREAS, the Parish Council desires to provide an exception to lower the speed limit for any vehicle or combination or train of vehicles, trucks, trailers or semitrailers exceeding five (5) tons or ten thousand (10,000) pounds in weight on Willowdale Boulevard in Luling from East Heather Drive (formerly Third Street) to Lafayette Drive.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That Section 15-9 of the Code is hereby amended to add No. 77 as follows:
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any motor vehicle at a speed in excess of twenty-five (25) miles per hour on any of the Parish streets, roads, highways and bridges,
EXCEPT:
(77) Willowdale Boulevard in Luling, speed limit shall be fifteen (15) miles per hour from East Heather Drive (formerly Third Street) to Lafayette Drive for any vehicle or combination or train of vehicles, trucks, trailers or semitrailers exceeding five (5) tons or ten thousand (10,000) pounds in weight.
