Proclamation: "GALETTE" - Official Donut of the German Coast - The Parish of St. Charles

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, tracing the roots of the "galette", the delightful breakfast bread prepared by Memere's and Nanaine's on the German Coast is like looking at the roots of a giant oak tree; and,
WHEREAS, the roots of the "galette" appear to go in every direction as "galettes" do resemble both the Spanish "sopapilla" and the French "beignet", mixed like the mixed culture of our German Coast; and,
WHEREAS, many descendents of the early German settlers of the German Coast - the Parish of St. Charles attest to the fact that "my German Grandmother made "galettes", so they must be of German origin"; and,
WHEREAS, every culture has its own fry bread; and,
WHEREAS, we believe the fry bread of the German Coast, the Cote des Allemands, now the Parish of St. Charles, is the "galette"; and,
WHEREAS, as a tribute to the mixed culture of our German Coast, the members of the St. Charles Historical Foundation proudly recognize and salute the Galette as our fry bread.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM
THE "GALETTE"
AS THE OFFICIAL DONUT
OF THE GERMAN COAST - THE PARISH OF ST. CHARLES
