A resolution asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to keep the Bayou Des Allemands Swing Span Bridge located on LA 631 in Des Allemands, St. Charles Parish, open to vehicular traffic at all times after each opening for marine traffic.

WHEREAS, this bridge was closed to vehicular traffic for several months after being open for marine traffic; and,
WHEREAS, the closure of this facility has caused undue hardship and danger to local residents and the elderly in the community which were forced to travel on Highway 90 during the closure; and,
WHEREAS, closures could impede the response of emergency vehicles from crossing Bayou Des Allemands in the event of a mishap that would shut down both lanes of the Highway 90 Bayou Des Allemands Bridge as recently occurred.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby ask the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to keep the Bayou Des Allemands Swing Span Bridge located on LA 631 in Des Allemands, St. Charles Parish, open to vehicular traffic at all times after each opening for marine traffic.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation & Development, Traffic Operation Engineer Mr. Steve Strength, Department of Transportation & Development Bridge Design Engineer Mr. Hossein Ghara, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, and Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., asking their assistance in this regard.
