IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Tranchant, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 23, 1923, and has been a resident of Destrehan since 1988; and,
WHEREAS, Bob was married for 58 years to Gloria Locicero Tranchant, who passed away in December 2002. They were blessed with one son, Robert Tranchant, III, who served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968; 10 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, whom he enjoys spending time with; and,
WHEREAS, Bob attended Alcee Fortier High School for three years before leaving to join the United States Navy on December 13, 1941. He was an Aviation Machinist Second Class and took care of airplanes based on aircraft carriers. He was land based during his entire period of service, stationed in San Diego, Daytona Beach, then the Panama Canal Zone until the end of World War II when he was discharged in October 1945 ; and,
WHEREAS, Bob retired as an electrical contractor in 1990. He runs Bob's Produce, "The Pineapple Express," and has been a fixture for the last 20 years as a vendor at the German Coast Farmers Market in Destrehan. He took up the hobby of raising pineapple plants and for the last 20 years has sold them as his main item; and,
WHEREAS, Bob celebrated his 100th birthday on July 23, 2023. When asked what his plans were for the next 100 years, he stated "I will take it one year at a time, I will take care of my plants and keep putting them out until the last day."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
ROBERT "BOB" TRANCHANT, JR.
