IN RECOGNITION
 
WHEREAS, Steve Ackerman, a resident of Norco, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish, began his distinguished athletic career in the St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation Special Olympics Program in 1984; and,
WHEREAS, Steve did win many medals while competing in swimming, bowling, softball, and basketball; and,
WHEREAS, Steve did letter with the Destrehan High Swim Team and was voted the senior with the most school spirit; and,
WHEREAS, Steve has excelled in many areas as a part of the Sun Villa Swim Team, Scared Heart Church, Knights of Columbus Red Church Council #3634, Scouts, Recreation Football Team, Dance Team; and,
WHEREAS, Steve has been a registered voter in St. Charles Parish since the age of 18 and has worked for the betterment of his community through his civic efforts and involvement in local political campaigns; and,
WHEREAS, Steve is a contributor to society and has been employed for several years at Loupe's Supermarket and Greaud's Fine Foods in Norco; and,
WHEREAS, Steve along with his fellow athletes in the Special Olympics Program have always lived up to their motto " Let me win.  But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt"; and,
WHEREAS, Steve was recently chosen as the Outstanding Male Special Olympics Athlete of the Year in Louisiana and recipient of the Spirit of Special Olympics Award.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
 
STEVE ACKERMAN
"PARISH   OF   PLENTY"
created in 1807 from the county of the
"German Coast", a parish of
unprecedented economic and social
development, known for its
 hospitality, rural living and sporting
opportunitiesÂ… with the added
distinction of being located
