In Memoriam: Monsignor John Nguyen Phuc

IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, on December 6, 2001, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, saw fit to call from amongst us one of His most worthy servants, Monsignor John Nguyen Phuc; and,
WHEREAS, Monsignor Phuc, a native of Saigon, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Vietnamese Literature at Saigon University in 1975; and,
WHEREAS, Monsignor Phuc emigrated to the United States and in 1979 completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at St. Joseph's Seminary College; and,
WHEREAS, Monsignor Phuc graduated from Notre Dame Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 1983; and,
WHEREAS, Monsignor Phuc was ordained into the Priesthood on May 14, 1983; and,
WHEREAS, Monsignor Phuc served as Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego from 1983 to 1986 and Associate Pastor at St. Louise de Marillac in Arabi from 1986 to 1988, when he was named Administrator from 1988 to 1990; and,
WHEREAS, on February 10, 1990, Monsignor Phuc, began serving as Pastor of St. Charles Borromeo and was named a Monsignor by Pope John Paul II in September of 1999; and,
WHEREAS, in November of 2000, Monsignor Phuc was named Dean of the St. John - St. Charles Deanery; and,
WHEREAS, words cannot adequately express or convey the appreciation felt by all of us for the many years of dedicated service rendered by Monsignor Phuc to St. Charles Parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, duly assembled on this 4th day of February, 2002, do hereby express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of

DECEMBER 30, 1957 - DECEMBER 6, 2001
BE IT RESOLVED, that a page in the Official Minute Book of the St. Charles Parish Council be set aside to record this Memoriam.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that when this meeting is adjourned, it shall be done in memory of Monsignor John Nguyen Phuc.
