Title
An ordinance to amend the Code of Ordinances Chapter 17, Parks and Recreation, to provide regulations for the use of the Mississippi River Bike and Pedestrian Paths.
Body
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has begun the construction of Bike and Pedestrian Paths on the Mississippi River Levees; and,
WHEREAS, to ensure the orderly use of said paths, the St. Charles Parish Council, in conjunction with the Pontchartrain Levee District and the Lafourche Basin Levee District have prepared regulations for the use of said paths; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council to adopt said regulations into the St. Charles Parish Code.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That the St. Charles Parish Code of Ordinances is hereby amended in Chapter 17 Parks and Recreation, by adding the following:
Mississippi River Bike and Pedestrian Path Rules and Regulations:
The following rules and regulations are hereby established for the use of the Mississippi River Bike and Pedestrian Paths:
Pedestrians stay to the right in each direction. Passing traffic should notify slower traffic that they are passing either by voice, horn, or bell.
Do not exceed 20 miles per hour.
Roller blades yield to Cyclist, Cyclist yield to Joggers: Joggers yield to Walkers.
No unauthorized motorized vehicles allowed.
No horses allowed.
Obey all traffic signs on trail and all Federal, State, and Local laws.
The following are PROHIBITED on the trails or its facilities:
Alcoholic Beverages
Use of Glass Containers
Racing
Littering
Solicitation
Carrying or Discharging Firearms
Vote
