RESOLUTION NO.
Title
A resolution requesting that a display of Religious Documents as a history of law be placed in the Parish Courthouse.
Body
WHEREAS, there is a need to educate and inform the public as to the history and background of American and Louisiana Law; and,
WHEREAS, America and Louisiana's religious history plays an important role in the background of our American and Louisiana Law; and,
WHEREAS, the role of religion in the Constitutional History of both America and Louisiana is acknowledged by historians and is important to the formation of civic virtue in our society; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council to display, in an appropriate presentation, the story of the role of religion in the Constitutional History of America and Louisiana.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that a public display of the following documents be placed in the Parish Courthouse:
The Mayflower Compact
The Ten Commandments
The Declaration of Independence
Article I through VI of the Northwest Ordinance
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said display shall be accompanied by a document entitled “Context for Acknowledging America's Religious History” as per LRS 25:1282.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said documents shall be acquired from the Archives and Records Management Division of the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office.
