Proclamation: "Rotary Foundation Month"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, in 1917, outgoing Rotary International President Arch C. Klumph proposed setting up an endowment "for the purpose of doing good in the world." In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty; and,
WHEREAS, each year 1.2 million Rotarians from around the world give in excess of $100 million dollars to the Rotary Foundation to support the mission of the Rotary Foundation; and,
WHEREAS, this money is used to develop and implement projects that are designed by Rotarians to be sustainable and to help those less fortunate individuals and communities; and,
WHEREAS, these projects focus on peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development; and,
WHEREAS, since its inception, the Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish, through its individual members, has contributed over $500,000 to the Rotary Foundation; and,
WHEREAS, through the Club's contributions to the Rotary Foundation, the Club has performed many projects in the local community including literacy projects, mentoring projects, and feeding the hungry projects; and,
WHEREAS, on an international level, the Club has sponsored, through the Rotary Foundation, St. Charles Parish residents as Ambassadorial Scholars, Group Study Exchange team members and team leaders, and has an ongoing relationship with Lunches for Learning to help the very poor in Honduras obtain a basic education; and,
WHEREAS, in its most recent rating, Charity Navigator gave The Rotary Foundation four stars out of a possible four stars and a grade ...
