Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development remove the flashing signal light and replace with the installation of a traffic controlling signal light at the intersection of Airline Drive (US 61) and St. Rose Avenue (LA 626), St. Rose.
Body
WHEREAS, new development in the St. Rose area has increased traffic; and,
WHEREAS, due to the displacement of residents caused by Hurricane Katrina there is substantially more traffic compounding existing traffic conditions; and,
WHEREAS, during peak traffic periods and vehicles traveling at high rates of speed makes it dangerous for vehicles turning east or west onto Airline Drive; and,
WHEREAS, over the years the Parish Council has adopted resolutions supporting a signal light at this intersection due to the hazardous conditions; and,
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development has a responsibility to protect the citizens from hazardous driving conditions by removing or reducing the potential for accidents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL do hereby request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development remove the flashing signal light and replace with the installation of a traffic controlling signal light at the intersection of Airline Drive (US 61) and St. Rose Avenue (LA 626), St. Rose.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Department of Transportation & Development Secretary Mr. Johnny B. Bradberry, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton asking their assistance in this regard.
