Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development perform a traffic study to determine the feasibility of the installation of a right turn acceleration lane at the intersection of Airline Highway (LA 61) and Evangeline Road, Montz and further request the installation of a right turn acceleration lane if study determines lane is warranted.
Body
WHEREAS, according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, traffic control devices are very critical for the safe and efficient transportation of people and goods; and,
WHEREAS, Evangeline Road is the primary means of traveling to Airline Highway for residents of Montz traveling to and from their jobs; and,
WHEREAS, Evangeline Road is used daily by the school buses transporting students to and from school; and,
WHEREAS, with the open span of roadway on Airline Highway and with the enormous amount of traffic traveling at high rates of speed, and during peak traffic periods, it has created a very dangerous and difficult situation for vehicles turning onto Airline Highway from Evangeline Road; and,
WHEREAS, large trucks use this span of roadway to access the Bonnet Carre' Spillway; and,
WHEREAS, the local governing authority has repeatedly made requests to the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development asking that a signal light be installed at this busy intersection; and,
WHEREAS, on May 6, 2019, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 6405, and on February 25, 2008, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 5518 requesting that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development install a signal light at the intersection of Airline Highway and Evangeline Road in Montz; and,
