P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, America was suddenly and brutally attacked by foreign terrorists; and,
WHEREAS, these terrorists hijacked and destroyed four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.; and,
WHEREAS, the fourth hijacked aircraft crashed in a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania after passengers tried to take control of the aircraft in order to prevent the hijackers from crashing into an important Symbol of Democracy and Freedom; and,
WHEREAS, thousands of innocent Americans were killed or injured as a result of these attacks, including the passengers and crew of the four aircraft, workers in the World Trade Center and in the Pentagon, rescue workers, and bystanders; and,
WHEREAS, these cowardly acts were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the Citizens of the United States of America; and,
WHEREAS, in the aftermath of these horrific events which have affected all Americans, the People of the United States stood United in providing support for those in need, and stood firm in resolving that terrorists would not intimidate our Nation nor weaken our Resolve; and,
WHEREAS, the United States Congress has declared September 11th of each year as “PATRIOT DAY”; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council and the Parish President to urge the citizens of St. Charles Parish to observe this somber day of remembrance and reaffirm our support of President George W. Bush and his efforts to protect and defend our Nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY DECLARE SEPTEMBER 11TH OF EACH YEAR AS
"PATRIOT DAY"
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH, AND REQUEST THAT ALL AMERICAN FLAGS BE DISPLAYED AT HALF-STAFF, THAT A MOMENT OF SILENCE BE OBSERVED ON “PATRIOT DAY” IN HONOR OF THE INDIVI...
